Like any good little cult member, I have recruited my sister, Abby for CrossFit.  Now, I know she is an athlete.  She practices hot yoga regularly and has run the Malibu Half Marathon.  But I discovered something more to her this week.  My baby sister is a freaking haus.

She had never touched a barbell in her life, yet totally schooled me maxing out at 93 pounds for her push press on day three.  Meanwhile, I have been weightlifting since high school, yet maxed out at only 83 pounds.  Like I said, she's a haus!

Abb and Mom made a haul to our itty bitty Lululemon Showroom (*We need a proper store here, Lulu!) and picked up these cute tanks for us.  The way I see it, if we are going to get ridiculously sweaty, we might as well look hot.

Last night was my first official class at CrossFit.  I wanted to look cute, but not like I was trying too hard.  So I put together basic black and grey, with a few pops of color.

Well, I made it through my first WOD (workout of the day).

Warm-up:
60 second handstand
2 sets of 10 each - walking lunges, push-ups, squats

WOD:
AMRAP (as many rounds as possible) in 15 minutes
15 wall balls, 4 lbs
10 kettle bell swings, 18 lbs
10 push-ups

My goal was to make it through 3 rounds, but I ended up at 5 rounds plus 14 wall balls.  Go me!  I thought I was going to die, but I did it.

I think Clark W. Griswold, Jr. said it best,
"Alleluia.
Holy shit.
Where's the Tylenol?"

Finally!  There is workout gear exclusively designed for indoor cycling.  Thank you, Lucy for your new Spin Fusion line!  After four months of sitting on my tukas, per my doctor's orders, I am cleared for exercise.  I only did ten minutes on the bike at a moderate pace with flat road tension; honestly, it felt like I ran a marathon.  My endurance is at an all time low... but you have to start somewhere.  Hoping to get eleven minutes in today.  Go me!

I also want to get back into lifting.  I talked to the girl over at a CrossFit gym and will start with a program that is paired down by 60% until my endurance and strength is improved.  I cannot wait for RDL's!  (*Clearly I am joking, Amie!)

In no time, I will be back to my bad ass self.

Sporty Spice

Find these sassy "Mom Uniform" pieces at Nike, Lucy, Lululemon & Athleta.
Running shoes.
Yoga pants.
Tee shirt.
Ball cap.

The essential pieces to the "Mom Uniform."  But you don't have to feel schlubby.  I like to perk up my uniform with pops of color and unexpected details.  The goal is to make it look effortless.  Like you are totally energized and balanced from that yoga class you just left.  When really you didn't have time to shower to get those pesky Cheerios out of your hair, the dog ate the baby's favorite blankie and your son just missed the bus to school.  Namaste.

So as you put on your uniform this morning, take that minute for yourself and change it up.  Add a pop of color instead of head to toe black.  Or go bold and pair a color combo (my new fave, orange and green).   Or swap out your college hoodie for a tailored zip-up.  Choose a feminine cut rather than that old boxy tee.  Try a tennis dress or running skirt instead of shorts (your legs will look awesome!).  Braid your hair or put on a cute headband instead of a hat.  Dab some clear lip gloss on your cheeks and lips, and you are ready to take on the world... or at least library storytime.

*My friend Jen, confessed to wearing running shoes to her playgroup this week.  It's ok, Jen.  I just hope you didn't wear them with bootcut jeans like Mrs. Ben Affleck.
